Anguish and pain
published: Monday | March 19, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

This is my first letter to the editor, but upon hearing of the horrific murder of these two children, I just felt compelled to write. Other crimes are also important, but this one makes me wonder what could have warranted the deaths of these children. Can you imagine the fear and the horror these children felt while staring death in the face? I express sincere condolences to the family in this their time of bereavement.

I am a Jamaican residing in a foreign land where my country of birth is seen as a land of violence, evil and callousness. I defend my country to others as I am proud to be a Jamaican, I consider Jamaica to be the most beautiful place on earth. But alas there are those who are ruining our land, who are destroying the reputation of a country that has so much to offer.

What is prompting these persons to commit these acts of crime against their fellowman? Are these acts linked to drugs, revenge or just plain cold-hearted cruelty? Whatever it is, it needs to stop!! I am imploring those young men who are being enticed to a life of crime and drugs by men waving money in your face and filling your heads with lies, think about what you are bringing on your head ? tears of anguish and pain, and remember that at the end of the day you have to face yourself and the Almighty God who created you.

I am, etc.,

A. MORGAN
