Wilkins, Barham impressive

Holmwood Technical's Bobby-Gaye Wilkins and Kingston College?s (KC) Oshane Barham recorded personal best times in the 400m on the final day of the senior boys and girls Carifta Games Trails at the Stadium East Complex yesterday.

Wilkins took the girls Under-20 event in 52.03, some way ahead of her previous best (52.8). She won the event ahead of Kayon Robinson of Vere Technical (53.57).

Wilkins, the reigning Central American and Caribbean (CAC) junior Under-20 400m champion said after the race that she was very pleased with her effort.

?I am ok with my performance because the time got really cold and I was hoping that I would have run before the rain and eventually we did and I think that I went out there and did my best, and so I am happy for that,? said Wilkins, who added that she is now focusing on Champs which will be held from March 28-31.

Keeping fit

?I am now just hoping that I can keep myself fit and keep on running good times so that I can get a medal at Champs this year, which is my first year in class one,? said Wilkins.

Barham captured the boys? equivalent in a new personal mark of 47.22, which erased his previous best(48.1), which he achieved at the UWI Classics earlier this year. St. Jago?s Riker Hylton was second in (47.35).

Barham was also happy with his performance.

? I am very satisfied with my performance today. This is a big personal best for me today,? said Barham.

Mount Alvernia?s Shevine Hoges took the girls? Under-17 400m in (55.85) over Wolmer?s Girls? Jody-Ann Muir (56.19, while Wolmer?s Boys? Dwayne Extol (49.36) won the male event ahead of Kingston College?s Andre Pickersgill (49.70).

Danielle Jeffery of Immaculate (24.10) took Under-20 girls? 200m ahead of Edwin Allen?s Kaycea Jones (24.30), while St. Jago?s Yohan Blake won the boys Under-20 200m in (20.92) ahead of Calabar?s Ramone McKenzie (21.13).

Bridgeport?s Jermanie Brown (22.10) took the boys Under-17 200m ahead of William Knibb?s Jason Young (22.24).

Camperdown?s Lorenzo Johnson won boys Under-20 pole vault, clearing 4.00 metres. Jamaica College?s (JC) Chad Scott (3.90m) was second.

Raymond Brown of the University of Technology (UTech) took the boys Under-20 shot put with a throw of 18.20m ahead of St. George?s College O? Dayne Richards 16.69.

Campbell wins

Manchester? High?s Natoya Goule (4:33.26) won the girls? Under-17 1500m, with Edwin Allen?s Mackola Joseph (4:39.39) second, while Kemoy Campbell of Bellefield won the boys equivalent in (4:00.04) ahead of KC?s Donahue Williams (4:16.66).

Vere Technical?s Lanince Hall took the girls? Under-17 100m hurdles in (14.49). Second went to Latoya James (14.68) of the Convent of Mercy Academy, Alpha.

KC?s D? Omar Boyden won the boys Under-17 110m hurdles in (13.61) ahead of teammate Kimarley Henry (13.66).

Keiron Stewart of KC (13.71) won the boys Under-20 110m hurdles in front of JC?s Andre Collins (14.05).

Vere Technical?s Jillisa Grant (5.89m) won the girls? Under-20 long jump ahead of teammate Kimberley Williams (5.80m).

Andrew Riley of Calabar took the boys Under-20 long Jump (2.05m) in front of KC?s Omari Dookie (1.95m).
