Ms Jamaica Universe Contestant - Stacey-Ann Kirlew
published: Wednesday | March 21, 2007

Stacey-Ann Kirlew, Miss Nair - Winston Sill/Freelance Photographer

Age: 20

Height: 5 8

Occupation: Student

Sponsor: Miss Nair

Why did you decide to enter the competition?

I decided to enter the competition because I want to make a change in society. I believe that persons living with HIV/AIDS and cancer are not getting proper medical care, and I believe that if I should win the title I'd be able to effect that change.

How do you plan to improve Jamaica's chances at Miss Universe?

I believe that bubbly personality, my presence, I can light up a crowd, my physical beauty as well as inner beauty, which is very important, will allow me to showcase my country to the world.

How do you plan to use your entry in the contest to boost 'Brand Jamaica' locally and internationally?

First, we all know that Jamaica is the land of wood and water, 4,243 sq. miles of paradise. I would say that Jamaica is a mixture of different ethnic (groups) and that brings out the plethora of art and music.

What will your platform be if you win the pageant?

As I said before, I would work with people living with HIV/AIDS and cancer and help them to get proper medical care.

What does the Miss Jamaica pageant say about the role of women in society?

I believe it says that women are evolving. They are now stepping up to the plate. They are able to be placed in a position of responsibility where they can effect positive change in society.

How have you benefited so far from the preparations you have received during the pageant?

Well, I have learnt that patience is a virtue, definitely. I've also learnt to be more poised, confident, and also realise that beauty is not just physical beauty, it comes from within.

What are some of your interests?

Well, I enjoy the simple pleasures of spending quality time with family and friends, dancing, socialising and doing charity work for the United Nations and other charity organisations.
