Miss Jamaica Universe Contestants
published: Friday | March 23, 2007

Sponsor: Miss Quik Cash Sun Money

Why did you enter the competition?

"Basically, my friends encouraged me to enter, so I just decided, why not?"

How do you plan to improve Jamaica's chances at Miss Universe?

"I plan to improve Jamaica's chances at Miss Universe by bringing my intelligence, information by helping with the development of Jamaica."

How do you plan to use your entry in the contest to boost 'Brand Jamaica' locally and Internationally?

"Locally I would help in some way to help the people see what beautiful things we have in Jamaica and help to develop it. Internationally, I would talk about the things that we have - reggae music, beautiful beaches, the warm and loving people."

What will your platform be if you win the pageant?

"I think I would focus mainly on the inner-city youth and do more voluntary services to help with the development."

How have you benefited so far from the preparations you have received during the pageant?

"I consider myself to be a shy person, who likes to take on challenging things, cause it makes me confident and bold. So this competition definitely helped me. We had speech and voice training which helped me a lot, and walking sessions."

What are some of your interests?

"I like to play netball, singing, but mainly in the shower, I like to read and socialise."

Why did you enter the competition?

"My main motivation for me was definitely self-development. I was looking forward to grooming classes, speech classes, to round out my personality and bring out more of the lady in me."

How do you plan to improve Jamaica's chances at Miss Universe?

"Well I plan to carry the vibration that Jamaica is known for, love and compassion but still a colourful personality, vibrancy. I think I'm a very vivacious person, I think a lot of that spunk will come out of me naturally that's the Caribbean flavour, the vibe that Jamaica is known for."

How do you plan to use your entry in the contest to boost 'Brand Jamaica' locally and Internationally?

"I think brand Jamaica has a pretty good image internationally though there is the downside of crime. Our image is still one of good vibration, love, a brotherhood. The music has done a lot for our image, Rastafari has done a lot for our image, a lot of people gravitate toward that love. For me if I were to win and go on the trip to the finals I would want to take souvenirs for the people because they love that too, to carry a piece of Jamaica for them."

What will your platform be if you win the pageant?

"My platform is definitely going to be in the education system because I believe that's where the most fundamental changes are made, the most widespread changes. I plan to focus on the schools in my community especially Donald Quarrie High School. From living close by and seeing the kids that go there you get to realise they have a lot of issues with self-esteem, they bleach their skin their eyebrows are more pruned than mine.

How have you benefited so far from the preparations you have received for the pageant?

"One of my main goals was to become more relaxed and to be more true to my personality, to not switch to fit a situation. To learn how to express me more, so far that has been coming through. With the speech and voice classes, general grooming tips on how to carry yourself - poise and carriage, that has helped me to become more confident."

Occupation: Student
Sponsor: Miss CVM Plus
Vital Statistics: 36 - 25 - 27

Why did you enter the competition?

"I decided to enter the competition to have fun, but most importantly to tour the various parishes where I will be able to meet people and to interact. I know this competition is for us girls for travelling the various parishes as well, but especially the north coast and for me I think this will be a good venture to my career goal which is tourism and grooming and deportment is one of the reasons as well."

How do you plan to improve Jamaica's chances at Miss Universe?

"I would go with an open mind, confidence, be myself and represent the country with the best that I have.

How do you plan to use your entry in the contest to boost 'Brand Jamaica' locally and Internationally?

"To boost 'Brand Jamaica' I would would enlighten people about our culture, for instance our brand music reggae that's sweeping the world by storm. We have some of the most talented entertainers and musicians. Our famous dishes, ackee and saltfish, not to mention our jerk chicken and our exotic beaches, and I would tell people how Jamaicans can be warm and friendly."

What will your platform be if you win the pageant?

"If I should win Miss Jamaica Universe 2007, first and foremost I would wear the title with honour, and I would live to the expectations of the people and I would dedicate myself to charity and community activities. Basically my platform would definitely be charity."

How have you benefited so far from the preparations you have received during the pageant?

"First and foremost it is a bit stressing, I must say a lot of spending, but apart from that we still find time to enjoy ourselves because majority of us are here just for the exposure and to just have some fun"

What are some of your interests?

"I enjoy dancing, reading socialising, partying, I'm a girl that just likes to have fun but mostly dancing because I have entered the National J.C.D.C. Dance Competition and won a gold medal.
