SEBA UNITED took a giant step towards easing their relegation woes, and made Wadadah's position even more precarious when they emerged impressive 3-0 winners in yesterday's 2006-07 Wray & Nephew National Premier League Montego Bay derby at the Catherine Hall Stadium.
By virtue of their win, ninth-placed Seba United, who won through Ricardo Geddes, Glenroy Miller and Theodore Whitmore, moved up to 30 points while 11th-placed Wadadah remains relegation bound on 16 points.
"We came into this game knowing that we needed the three points badly and we played a disciplined game and got the desired result," said Seba United coach Danilo Barrigga. "This is the kind of performance I would like to see every game."
The first half, which was keenly contested, saw the early chances falling to Wadadah. In the seventh minute, Eion Brown got away in front of goal but fumbled and lost possession. Five minutes later, the overlapping Rohan Reid also got a clear chance but he, too, fumbled before the goal.
Seba started the second half looking ominous. They were rewarded in the 55th minute when Geddes pounced on a loose ball before the Wadadah goal and fired a neat grounder past goalkeeper Gavin Barrett.
After surviving missed chances by substitute Curtis Palmer and Reid, Seba struck again in the 79th minute. On a speedy break down the middle, Miller latched on to a superb pass from the crafty Whitmore and drove a fierce volley into the goal, making the score 2-0.
With the fight knocked out of Wadadah and time ticking away, Whitmore sealed the issue with a gem of a goal for Seba. After waltzing his way down the left flank, he brilliantly lobbed the ball over the head of the goalkeeper from an almost impossible angle.
