August Town down Village
published: Thursday | March 29, 2007

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

HOSTS AUGUST Town recorded an exciting 3-1 victory over Village United in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League match at Barbican yesterday.

August Town dominated the first period and were rewarded in the 22nd minute when Kevin Blair fired home from point-blank range past goalkeeper Leighton Murray.

Ten minutes later, August Town's Tremaine Stewart thought he had doubled his team's lead but his close-range shot was spectacularly saved by Murray diving at full stretch to his left.

Village's Luke Tait came close to giving his team the equaliser on the stroke of half-time but his effort on goal went wide of the target.

Omar Allen gave Village the equaliser in the 65th minute when he headed a cross from teammate Lacon Brissett past custodian Devon Haughton.

However, 10 minutes later, August Town's Aphas Bernard rose above two Village defenders to headed home a well-placed cross from Nicholas Smith to make it 2-1.

Daniel Shaw scored August Town's third goal two minutes from time when his powerful 20-yard right-footer went like a rocket past Murray and into the back of the net.
