The Editor, Sir:I can only say that Mr. Seaga has written an article that speaks to the 'real' in society today.
Family values and the deterioration of same, in my opinion, is the absolute root of the problems in the world today - one of the largest contributors tocrime, immorality, lack of compassion and unity and humanity.
So, we deal with a world where 'the real' is that sex outside of marriage is a norm though not 'politically correct'; where infidelity is a norm - but again a measure of political correctness (though less so for a man in Jamaica than for a woman).
Admitting what's wrong
Let's deal with what's real and what's right - its only by admitting where and who we are and acknowledging and admitting to what's right and what's wrong and doing so in a spirit of love and support and non-judgementalism that we can grow as a nation and a world united towards achieving a greater humanity.
Hey - Mr. Seaga is right. let's hope that Sara Lawrence has a man at her side that will step up to the plate as a role model for Jamaican men also - be a committed parent - so many are raised without fathers!
Let's hope that whether or not he does, she will have the love and support of a family, a circle of friends, a village, and a nation to raise a child that can be a huge contributor to the future of our nation - that's kicking it real! God only knows what other hope we have.
I am, etc.,
NICOLA R.
