Snoop Dogg faces up to four years in jail. The rapper, real name Calvin Broadus, was charged on Tuesday with the sale or transportation of marijuana and possession of a gun by a convicted felon.
If convicted he could be sentenced to jail time.
Snoop's attorney, Donald Etra, said: "These are the charges that were fully expected, and they will be dealt with in court."
The 35-year-old rapper was arrested at California's Burbank airport last October, after police found a handgun and marijuana in his car.
Another gun was found in his Los Angeles home last November following a police search.
Forbidden
The Drop It Like It's Hot star is forbidden from ever owning a gun, following his conviction for possession of drugs for sale in 1990.
Snoop has been in trouble with the law on several occasions in the last year.
Last September, he tried to board a plane in California while carrying a 20-inch collapsible baton in a computer bag.
The rapper-and-actor claimed the baton was a movie prop, not a weapon.
In March, Snoop was questioned by Stockholm police for suspected narcotics use.
The U.K. leg of his tour with P Diddy was cancelled last month after he was denied entry into Britain, following a brawl in London's Heathrow airport last year.
