Fast-track Strata Act
published: Thursday | April 12, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

The escalating property values and the diminishing availability of land, especially in the capital city of Kingston, demand that the legislation to amend the Strata Act be immediately placed on a fast track. This will improve and enhance property values in communities that are registered under the said Strata Act.

Far too many owners in these communities refuse to pay the requisite maintenance, resulting in the few who are willing and pay being burdened with this responsibility.

The 'freeness mentality' of delinquent strata owners has been precipitated and nurtured by a toothless Strata Act, resulting in well-intentioned home owners being innocently penalised by experiencing depreciation rather than the expected appreciation in their property values.

I think I speak on behalf of the vast majority of strata owners should I implore the Government to act with dispatch on this one.

I am, etc.,

G. ELLIOTT
