THE EDITOR, Sir:
I write on behalf of the residents of Hampton Green. The drain along the train line is currently blocked. The drain bordering the playing field at Harrison's Preparatory School is also blocked.
They are now both suitable grounds for the anopheles mosquito, which transmits malaria.
There is a hydrant in the vicinity of 56-58 Hampton Drive which leaks constantly. It was recently visited by the workers from the National Water Commission, however, the problem was not corrected.
The grounds of the old steel factory are used as a dumping site for all types ofgarbage, including but not limited to bottles, cans, old tyres, etc., making it also a site for the breeding of the anopheles mosquitoes.
Additionally, there are rats the size of a mongoose, which have now spread in the community and are eating the mangoes off the trees.
In light of the foregoing, we would appreciate your assistance in saving this community and the surrounding areas from a malaria epidemic.
I am, etc.,
