Use wisdom to choose
published: Friday | April 13, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

When I read the article regarding the prophecy that God has ordained Mrs. Simpson Miller to rule for at least another seven years, my mind went back to the last two elections in the United States.

I remember powerful and influential preachers especially from the Bible belt 'advising' their congregations who to vote for. They share the responsibility for unleashing Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove et al on America, Iraq and the world.

The Apostle Paul, in 1 Timothy 2:1-3 urges us to supplicate, pray, intercede and give thanks for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. He says this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.

I also remember that when God wanted to be the ruler over Israel and the people wanted King Saul, God told them what the choice would bring, but he allowed them their choice. That is the God I know.

Even when it comes to the most important issue of salvation, God allows us to know the consequences of not accepting His gift, but man still has a choice.

I ask Jamaicans to pray for the Prime Minister, but use the wisdom that God gave you to make your decision when you go to mark your X. That is your option.

I am, etc.,
