The Editor, Sir:I read, with interest, your stories on the amount of taxpayers money spent on motor vehicles by the various ministries and the Bank of Jamaica, published in the Sunday Gleaner of April 15, 2007. I was disappointed, but not shocked by the expenditures as I have, along with my fellows Jamaican, have come to realise, sadly, that our politicians are not there to serve but to live the good life which explains why they will do anything to get re-elected.
What really threw me for a loop, however, was reading that the Bank of Jamaica has SEVENTY FIVE directors. Tell me that this is a typo, because it cannot be true that any organization needs this many directors. I will bet everything I own that none of the multinational, multibillion corporations in the world have 75 directors.
Luxury vehicles
The question which must be asked is who are these people what do these directors do? Are they employed full time by the bank? If not what are their other occupations? How often do they meet? what do they contribute to the Jamaican economy? To add insult to injury, these 75 directors are given luxury vehicles o the sum of over $162,000.00 per month for car upkeep, if they choose to use their own car. Can there be any doubt that this is a disgrace and a scandal which must be investigated and this wanton waste of tax payers money must be ended immediately. Seventy-five directors, what an outrage!
I am, etc.,
