Rohan Gunter - Balancing life through laughs
published: Thursday | April 19, 2007

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

From the comedy bus to the route of life as a comedian, Rohan Gunter is making a name for himself in entertainment. The winner of last year's Cashpot Comedy Bus, Gunter has been seen on numerous comedy shows since winning.

Gunter started out as an accountant and a promoter for Hardrock Entertainment before pursuing his dream of life on stage. This dream began as an emcee at a wedding. "I was doing a wedding for a co-worker cause I wanted the exposure as an emcee. I liked the feeling, having people laughing. I didn't enter to win the Comedy Bus but to get exposure. I realise now that comedy is much more important", he said. Winning the competition was the start of a promising career.

According to Gunter, one of the best parts of having won the show was being recognised by all his fans. It's a fan base that keeps on growing ashis jokes appeal to all age groups and types of people. This, according to Gunter, is what gave him his edge on the show. "My jokes are universal, it was intelligent. Some people didn't understand but most loved it. Some people were mostly gimmicks, some people focused on only one topic. I did topics from across the table," he said.

Encouragement

While on the show he got encouragement from the show's host and producer Christopher Daley. Daley told him to loosen up and get into character. The advice helped as he came out on top. While he has received criticism from some crowds, he doesn't let it discourage him.

However, Gunther does express that being a comedian in Jamaica is not an easy task as it doesn't earn as much as he would hope. Yet at the end of the day, bringing people laughter is always a plus.

Presently the comedian has started his own business 'Unxpected Projexz'. "I normally try to do things unexpected. I want to do different things - comedy, entertainment, fun day and more". His advice to upcoming Comedy Bus hopefuls is to be as universal as possible and try to appeal to all groups of people.
