Clinical Tivoli punish Boys' Town
published: Monday | April 23, 2007

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

Goals by Jermaine Taylor and Fabian Davis propelled Tivoli Gardens to a workmanlike 2-0 win over Boys' Town in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) game at the Edward Seaga Stadium yesterday.

Taylor ghosted in unmarked at the back post to head home a Davis corner in the 44th minute before Davis returned to seal the victory in the 87th minute.

Davis rammed home from close range after goalkeeper Philmore Crumbie failed to hold on to substitute Richard West's fierce shot from just inside the box.

Tivoli Gardens, with their 12th win of the season, remain in fifth position on 49 points, 19 behind league champions Harbour View on 68, with two rounds remaining.

Boys' Town, playing with 10 men for 51 minutes after Garfield Gillespie was dismissed in the 39th minute for his second yellow card offence, remain on 36 points.

Winning coach Calvert Fitzgerald said he was satisfied with his team's performance and was anticipating an epic battle with Boys' Town.

Said Fitzgerald: "It was a bit easier than I anticipated knowing that it was a border clash between two rival communities, but it was a routine victory for us. It was a good victory and I am satisfied with the way the team played today."

Boys' Town coach, Andrew Price, thought Gillespie's early sending off set back his team considerably but they fought gallantly.

Said Price: "I didn't think we played intelligently today, Garfield Gillespie getting a red card early in the first half for a nonsensical tackle changed the whole complexion of the game. From there on we were on the back foot. We hung in there until about five minutes to go when they got the extra goal."
