AFTER A break of 18 years, members of the once popular sound system, Stereo One, have decided to reunite and have an anniversary celebration for the very first time.

According to deejay Daddy Blue, "Wi plan fi have a Stereo One reunion because it was a big sound back inna di '80s."

Those associated with Stereo One included Lt. Stitchie, Wolfman, Ricky Stereo, Malibu, Leroy the Hornsman, Daddy Blue, Sugar Bobby, Bendilue (Vegas' big brother), Little John, Little Kirk, Captain Barkey and Wickerman, Dollyman, Michael Buckley, Mikey Dread and Mumble.

The sound system's former owner, Clifton Henry, is the only one who will be missing. He died in 2004.

"Nothing wasn't happening wid Stereo One for a while, but I have been living in New York (from 1993), where I live permanently, an mi a try keep it alive because the name is a strong name and we were the number one sound in Jamaica from 1987 to 1989. But wi still get a lot of play in New York and all over in the States," Daddy Blue said.

He says the split was not something that could have been avoided, as individuals went their separate ways in pursuit of personal goals.

"Yuh know how sound business guh. Wolfman live a foreign, me live a foreign, the group just split, Stitchie went to pursue him career with Atlantic Records, and the list goes on," he said.

"But wah really happen now is that wi jus decide fi keep a reunion dance because the whole crew is still around and is not a lot of sounds can still put their original crew together. Our entire crew is still around, except for Clifton Henry, who was the owner. He died about three years ago," Daddy Blue said.

Two-day event

The reunion dance, dubbed 'The First Annual Stereo One Reunion', will take place over a two-day period, starting today, at Links Caf, Yallas Square, St. Thomas, and then on Sunday, April 29, at Ennises Bay Beach, Long Road, Portland.

"For now is just a reunion dance, but anything can happen. But is 18 years wi a celebrate an everybody is happy about it an from di two main man involved (Stitchie and Wolfman) an dem endorse it, then wi have a powerhouse right there. This thing is history, because after 18 years the whole crew coming together again, people who use to deejay on the sound and play on the sound. It's really something good and historical," Daddy Blue said.
