Business House basketball officially launched
published: Sunday | May 6, 2007

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

THE 2007 Business House Basketball Association's (BHBA) Three-on-Three competition was officially launched yesterday at the Alhambra Inn in St. Andrew with the theme "moving into the future".

Twenty-nine teams have entered this year's competition, up from 21 from the previous season. Bar To Go are the defending champions. The new teams are Accent Marketing, Asylum, Bank of Jamaica, E-Services, Jamaica National Building Society, Mega Mart, National Land Agency and National Police Sports Council.

expecting exciting affair

Captain Cliff Lumsden, president of the BHBA, said he is expecting this year's tournament to be an exciting affair.

"This year, we are expecting to increase the number of teams in the competition to make it more competitive and exciting, so all companies not yet on board are welcome," said Lumsden.

"The games will help to foster good relations, encourage players to pursue and enhance their educational background and to maintain high standards and professionalism on and off the court," he said.

Althea Grandison, vice-president of the BHBA, said this year's tournament was designed to showcase some of the best local talent.

"Our vision for this year's competition is to have, in addition to the three on three, a full-court competition that will be both regional and national," said Grandison.

clinics

"We are trying to have clinics so that we can be able to get some of our players out there alongside corporate Jamaica," she said.

The opening ceremony, dress parade and a one-day open rally will be held on May 19, with the competition scheduled to commence on May 26. All matches will be played on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The winners of the competition, along with selected category winners, will be recognised at an awards ceremony at the end of the competition.
