GLASGOW (Reuters);RANGERS CLINCHED a Champions League slot with a 2-0 home win over Scottish Premier League winners Celtic yesterday in the final derby clash of the season.
Striker Kris Boyd slammed a first-time shot under Celtic 'keeper Artur Boruc from 12 metres in the 35th minute for his 100th SPL goal.
Charlie Adam hit the second with a low free kick under the defensive wall into the bottom left corner from 20 metres in the 56th minute.
Second-placed Rangers, unbeaten in the league since Walter Smith replaced Paul Le Guen as manager in January, have 72 points from 36 games, while champions Celtic are on 81.
"I have had a terrific reaction from everyone since I came here," Smith said, "and we have not lost a league game since coming back, and if that had been the form throughout the season then we could have been challenging for the championship.
"Our goal is to make sure Celtic get a greater challenge next season."
