Kepple shines on dull day
published: Sunday | May 27, 2007

Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

DISCARDED JAMAICA batsman Maurice Kepple made hay while the sun shone during yesterday's fourth round of matches in the Jamaica Cricket Association's (JCA) Super Cup.

On a day when rain affected all five matches across the country, Kepple, representing Kensington against neighbours Lucas, fought off the frustration of stoppages due to rain to score a century.

Kepple, who has played 11 first-class matches for Jamaica, scored an impressive 118, helping Kensington to 300 for three.

The right-handed batsman, who last played at the regional level in 2005 against Barbados, struck 12 fours and two sixes during his 186-ball knock.

support

The 26-year-old former Old Harbour High School Headley Cup player was supported by Rasheed Outar, a national youth player, who will resume on 77, and discarded West Indies player Wavell Hinds, 75.

At Melbourne Oval, St. Catherine surrendered a good start - 91 without loss - to close the rain-hit day of their match against Melbourne on 113 for four.

Junior Stewart, 71, and Dean Morgan, 15, gave them a good start, but Marlon Samuels and Yanick Elliott picked up four wickets between them.

Stewart hit nine fours and two sixes off 58 balls in 71 minutes before he was caught by Damion Henry off Samuels. When Morgan went caught by Samuels off Elliott, soon after, St. Catherine were 91 for two.

dismissed

Damion Bryce, five, and Wayne Morgan, two, were the other batsmen to be dismissed. Samuels has so far taken 2-14 and Elliott 2-25.

Keith Hibbert, 10, and David Morgan, six, will resume this morning at 10:00.

At Alpart, pacers Conroy Miller and Christopher Dyer shared five wickets for St. Elizabeth against Manchester, who were struggling at 98 for six when rain stopped play at 1:49 p.m.

Miller took 3-8 and Dyer 2-17. David Powell top scored with 31 for Manchester.

At Up Park Camp, Jamaica Defence Force were 176 for three when the rain came after tea. Bereston Reid hit a top score of 56.

At Allan Rae Oval, Westmoreland were 145 for three when rain stopped play at 3:00 p.m.
