Ity and Fancy Cat make administrative change
published: Friday | June 1, 2007

Exel

André Jebbinson, Staff Reporter

Renae Exel has been relieved of her organisational and administrative duties with comedic duo Ity and Fancy Cat and, by extension, Ellis International.

In a letter given to Exel, Ity and Fancy Cat stated they both value her friendship and her "at-the-venue representation", but went on to cite where the problem lies.

Part of the letter read: "As entertainers, we also enjoy the exuberant and passionate personality that you bring to our surroundings when we are on an assignment. But we would be very dishonest if we did not point out the simple fact that we are less than pleased with your current handling of the business department."

It went on to say "We are now trying to strengthen all aspects of our career as Ity and Fancy Cat, so we can better capitalise on opportunities and increase our earnings."

Exel declined the offer to be the duo's road manager. She could not be reached for comment, but according to Ity, it is understandable that she would be upset after virtually being in charge of all of Ellis International's business and then to be offered a role which seemed like a demotion. Exel had been working with the company since 2005.

"I can see why she would be upset, but she needs to look at the broader picture. Sometimes you make a decision and others will be upset. Time has a way to deal with that," Ity said.

The letter was first given to Exel last Friday, followed by a meeting with her on Saturday. Ity said there is not one specific reason for the decision to relieve her of her extra duties. However, he made reference to a television programme that was lagging.

Simple misinterpretation

According to the other half of the team, Fancy Cat, the letter was a simple misinterpretation by Exel. He said it was simply a move to cut back on the responsibilities, which they deemed too much for one person. Exel began with Ellis International handling bookings, but began increasing her work load as she saw the need. Fancy Cat said she left many projects unfinished and that was not good for business.

Still, there is no lost love among the "friends", according to Fancy Cat.

"Renae a wi fren regardless a how she wine an gwaan last week. If she come back tomorrow an seh sorry, or even if shi nuh seh sorry, shi good to go," Fancy Cat said.

Ity also said she might have reacted in anger and he will wait it out. If turns out not to be the case, Ity has a contingency plan.
