Campbell tops HalfMoon Golf Classic in Jamaica
published: Saturday | June 2, 2007

Fabian Campbell shot an impressive 145 to capture the men's title at last weekend's Jamaica Amateur Golf Association (JGA)/ Jamaica Money Market Broker's (JMMB) Half Moon Golf Classic in Montego Bay.

The tournament, which was played over a two-day period, saw Campbell shooting 73 on the first day and 72 on the second day.

Gifford Wilmot (154) and Micheal Rowe (156) were the second and third place runners-up respectively in the men's 0-5 category.

Campbell was very elated with his victory.

"I just needed one out-of-town win. I've proven myself in Kingston time and time, but to get a win in MoBay, that feels real good," said Campbell.

In the men's 6-10 category, Tommy Lee (157) proved too much for Roy Jardine (161) and Wesley Brown (162).

New champions

A new champion was crowned in the men's senior category when George Hugh shot 163 to beat last year's champion Lincoln Williams (171). In the men's Super Senior category, Dennis Atkinson was the top scorer with 155, while Fred Sutherland (163) and Hansel Williams (163) took second and third respectively.

Anthony Findlay captured the men's 11-18 Stableford category with a score of 57. Clifton Johnson (52) and Clive Allen (49) finished second and third respectively.

Dale Wanliss won the mens' senior Stableford with a top score of 69, while Maurice Foster won the Super Senior Stableford with a high score of 74, with Berris Phillips finishing second place with a score of 65.

Darnley Thomas shot 192 to capture the women's 0-10 category, while Lindsey Chang's 72 was good enough for first place in the Stableford. In the ladies senior category, Cherrie Phillips shot a combined 61 to take the category.
