NOTE WORTHY - Road danger
published: Tuesday | June 12, 2007

Road danger

I implore the appropriate authorities to immediately remove the newspaper vendors at the intersection of Lady Musgrave and Hope Road, outside Medallion Hall Hotel.

It is just a matter of time before a serious accident occurs, as motorists entering Lady Musgrave Road from either East Kings House Road or Hope Road inevitably are forced to slam on their brakes, as thoughtless motorists stop to purchase newspapers around the bend. This is a daily occurrence. Do we have to wait until someone is killed before they are moved?

- Mrs. C. Young, Haining Road, Kingston 5

The people's choice

I have read a lot of the letters commenting on Lisa Hanna being chosen as the PNP representative in St. Ann, but the one I found most interesting was the one by Dr. W. Miller-Rowe from Cardiff Hall, Runaway Bay, which spoke about the wonderful things that she has done and is doing and her qualification, but what this person is doing just like the PNP, is disregarding what the people of the constituency want.

Utility post grouse

For just about a year now several light posts on the Gordon Town road, particularly those in proximity to the town, were targeted for repairs.

Deep holes were dug beside the existing poles, thus compromising the present structures, and have been left unattended to date. About eight months ago, a letter drawing to the attention of JPS the threat that the condition of the poles presented, especially in the likely onslaught of a hurricane, was sent by a group of concerned citizens.

Several other attempts were made through other means to get some action on the part of your company, but all to no avail. We are again asking JPS to treat this matter with the utmost urgency, especially now that we are inanother hurricane season that has been predicted to be extremely active.

Never too late

The Prime Minister has missed a golden opportunity to become the first woman to be elected to that office in the history of Jamaica.

Upon becoming Prime Minister, a safe passage would have been to clean house - Phillip Paulwell, Omar Davies, Roger Clarke, Peter Phillips, A.J. Nicholson as a start. K.D. Knight knew that it was the wise thing to do so he ran before the axe could fall; sadly, there was no axe.

Such a move would have all but guaranteed her return for a full elected term; it would have secured many votes, including this writer's! Furthermore, the country in all probability would be better off today, certainly no worse. Madam Prime Minister, now that we have lost the Cricket World Cup, take a hard look at your political advisers. It is not too late; drastic times call for drastic measures.

- Gerald A. Hedmann, Morant Bay, St. Thomas
