Among the influx of entries received by the National Child Month Committee, Toni-Ann Henry emerged as winner of the essay competition in the six to eight age group.Toni-Ann, a student at the Excelsior Primary school, said she was happy when she heard she was the winner of the first prize.
Elaborating on her success was her father, Howard Henry, who said he was not aware of the competition.
"While preparing dinner one evening, Toni-Ann was asking some questions and I answered her, but I did not know that it was related to a competition," Mr. Henry said.

Mr. Henry also said he and Toni-Ann's mother were surprised but proud of their daughter's achievement and would encourage all fathers to shower their children with love because children live what they learn.
In addition, Adrian Green, a student at the Wolmer's High School for Boys, said his piece was based on the experiences of others.
Adrian won in the 15-18-year-old category.
"My inspiration came from different people, the Internet, and reading books. It was never of my own because my father has always been there for me," he said.
He added: "We need more father figures in society because Jamaica is taking a turn for the worst and we need them for motivation."
