Hinds cracks double century
published: Saturday | June 23, 2007

Jamaica's captain Wavell Hinds ... scored 208 for Kensington against Melbourne last week in the Super Cup.- File

IN A low-key week, former West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds scored heavily in the Jamaica Cricket Association's (JCA) Super Cup to be the Gleaner Top Performer of the Week.

On the opening day of the seventh-round match against Melbourne at Kensington Park, Hinds, who has played 45 Test matches for the West Indies, batted the entire day for an unbeaten 203 for the hosts. Hinds, who has scored 2,608 runs with a top score of 213 at the Test level, almost single-handedly carried Kensington to 340 all out.

He was eventually dismissed by left-arm pacer Leon Bent, caught behind Carlton Baugh standing up, for 208.

In his innings, which saw him face the first and last deliveries of the entire first day, he struck 17 fours and six sixes from 315 balls on the opening day and returned to face another 25 deliveries on the second.

Despite his exploits, Kensington were beaten on first innings by Melbourne, who scored 360 for nine.
