PETERSFIELD, Westmoreland:
Councillor for the Petersfield Division, Laumond Senior, lashed the Government for not moving speedily in having the planned relocation of residents of the Roaring River community in his division carried out.
He made these comments while speaking at the monthly meeting of the Westmoreland Parish Council held recently.
He went on to say that the former State Minister in the Ministry of Housing presented a draft plan of th sight to the council in June of last year. However he said to date he has not heard anything further on this matter.
Secretary Manager of the Westmoreland Parish Council, Patricia Sinclair-Stair, in responding to Councillor Senior, told him the draft plan was now with the National Environmental and Planning Agency.

College graduates urged to work in general election
MANDEVILLE, Manchester:
Dr. Herbert Thompson, president of the Northern Caribbean University (NCU), has urged college graduates to become specialist workers in the upcoming general elections. His appeal came at the 60th anniversary awards luncheon of the Knox Past Students' Association held recently.
Dr. Thompson, who is also a commissioner of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica, stressed that college graduates were needed in 18 constituencies in which the electronic identification of voters will be ascertained to help maintain free and fair elections.

Roads and works supt demits office
OCHO RIOS, St Ann:
Long-standing superintendent of roads and works at the St. Ann Parish Council Arthur George Hosang will demit office in July after serving in various parish councils for more than 40 years.
In response to the announcement of Mr. Hosang's pending departure, Minister of Local Government and Environment, Dean Peart, noted that: "It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I join the others in the Ministry and local authorities to bade farewell to Mr. Hosang.
He has left an indelible mark on the path he travelled through his career in the ministry and his departure will, in no doubt, leave a huge void. However, we sincerely thank him for his many years of service and wish him success in his future endeavour."

Repairs to pump disrupt water supply in St Mary
INDUSTRY PEN, St Mary:
The National Water Commission (NWC) says customers in St. Mary, who are served by the Industry Pen Relift Station, may be without regular water supply until July 4.
According to the NWC, this disruption is due to mechanical complications associated with the pump. Repairs are already under way and full restoration of service is expected by Wednesday. The trucking of water o days, to all affected customers, was scheduled to begin on Thursday. The areas affected are Industry Pen and sections of Three Hills.

Phase One of primary school refurbishing project complete
Phase One of a refurbishment project for Marlie Hill Primary School, at which Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller was astudent, has been completed by Metro-Manhattan Links Inc. of the United States at a cost of just under $500,000. The organisation is a service group of African American women who undertake initiatives for the advancement of education in developing countries.
In her remarks, at an unveiling ceremony held at the school on Wednesday, Mrs. Simpson Miller said the improvements to the physical surroundings at Marlie Hill Primary school have created a more pleasant environment where students could learn in comfort.

Montego Bay bids farewell to airport developer
MONTEGO BAY, St. James:
The Montego Bay business community on Tuesday bade farewell to Chief Executive Officer of Montego Bay Jamaica (MBJ) Airports Limited, Jorge Sales, who, over the last three years has led the project to transform the Sangster International Airport into a world-class facility.
At the farewell function held at the Three Palms Restaurant near the Rose Hall Resort and Country Club, gifts and kind words wereshowered on the developer, who leaves the island to take up new assignment in Mexico.
