Young Nangle topples age group record
published: Saturday | June 30, 2007

JAMAICA'S KENDESE Nangle toppled yet another national age group record and boosted her individual medal tally to four when she snatched bronze in the girls' 100 metres butterfly at the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships in El Salvador on Thursday.

Despite entering the final of the event with the fastest time in the 11-12 category, Nangle had to settle for third with a time of 1:10.96.

The Jamaicans, who have earned eight medals so far, narrowly missed out on two more in the 15-17 girls' 200m freestyle and the 15-17 boys' 100m butterfly.

Brad Hamilton, who already has a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke, and Natasha Moodie, who has a silver medal in the girls' 100m freestyle, both finished fourth.

Up to press time yesterday, Nangle was in the hunt for another medal in the 11-12 girls' 100m breaststroke final after placing fifth in the preliminaries with a time of 1:26.77.

In other heats, Natasha Moodie placed fourth to qualify for the 15-17 girls' event in 1:13:54 and Xavier Boland just made it through to the final in the 11-12 boys' 100m breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:20.65 to be the eighth fastest qualifier.

Hamilton missed out on a spot in the boys' 15-17 100m breaststroke as his time of 1:13.89 was only good enough for a ninth-place finish.

Jamaica are currently ninth overall in the standings with 92 points. Venezuela lead all countries with a total of 66 medals.
