Hawks look to soar against Catherine Hall in finals

CHAMPIONS SAV Hawks marched into the finals of the Western Basketball Association/Lucozade Sports Men's League on Sunday afternoon at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts when they completed a 2-0 semi-final sweep over fancied Avalanche.

The Hawks' opponents in the finals will be Catherine Hall All Stars, who also advanced courtesy of a 2-0 semi-final sweep over Rainbow Storm.

In the respective Game Ones, which were played on Saturday, All Stars defeated Storms 72-64 and Hawks downed Avalanche 80-78.

In the first game of Sunday night's Game Two fixtures, Hawks blunted the title aspirations of the fancied Avalanche, brushing them aside 71-57 to seal their place in the upcoming best-of-three finals. In the second game, All Stars were pushed to the limit by Storms but came out 71-65 winners.

In their win on Sunday, Hawks were well served by Dillon Hodges, who scored 19 points; Maurice Rodriques, who scored 16; and Kenneth Blackwood, who had 10 points and 14 rebounds. Adolph Erskine with 19 points, and Damion Smith with 12 points and 14 rebounds, battled in vain for Avalanche.

Brilliant game

All Stars' win centred around Goyan Malcolm, who had abrilliant game for his 32 points and Jermaine Dillion and Neville Christie with 16 and 10 points respectively. Nicholas Rhooms and Dave Black, with 28 and 21 points, played well for Storms.

The best-of-three finals will begin on Saturday at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts with a Game One showdown at 7:30 p.m. Game Two will be played next Wednesday at the same venue. If needed, a Game Three decider will be played next Sunday.
