Birds free till September

The Minister of Local Government and Environment, Dean Peart, has declared the period Saturday, September 1 through to Sunday, September 30, bird-shooting season.

Game birds, which may be lawfully hunted during the season are: the Bald-pate (Columbia leucocephala); the White-winged Dove (Zenaida asiatica); Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroua) and Pea Dove (Zenaida aurita).

The birds may be hunted on Saturdays between sunrise and 9:00 a.m and from 2:30 p.m. to sunset. The period from sunrise to 9:00 a.m is set for hunting on Sundays. Hunters' licences fees this year will attract a cost of $10,000. Persons found guilty of hunting without a licence may be fined up to $100,000 or imprisoned for up to 12 months.
