The Editor, Sir:
On Saturday morning, August 4, I went to the Whitehouse fishing village in Westmoreland. It is the cleanest fishing village I have ever seen. The fisherfolk there are far less rowdy than the parliamentarians.
The buildings, based on the information on a plaque near the beach, were donated by the Japanese government. There are concrete fishing tubs for scaling and washing fishes.
Fairly intelligent
The boat engines are well laid out in a shed. I stopped and spoke to two fishermen who were brothers, one a People's National Party (PNP) supporter and the other a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporter. Both were fairly intelligent, and this prompted me to ask the PNP supporterif he had told Mr. Patterson not to allow a hungry man to carry his food. He immediately said yes, he had given the former Prime Minister words that had enabled him to win election after election.
His brother, on the other hand, said that as a JLP supporter he had sought to get in touch with Mr. Seaga but to no avail. He said that he too had words of wisdom that might have saved this country immeasurable suffering.By then, I was anxious to hear what words could have changed our history. He said that all he wanted to tell Mr. Seaga all these years was, "You must never allow a mongoose to be in charge of your chicken coops."
With that, I left the fishing village and hoped that at this late stage he might get in touch with Mr. Golding.
I am, etc.,
