Henry, Lewis top singles contest

Henry

Jamaicans Gareth Henry and Alya Lewis are the male and female champions of the Mayberry Investment-sponsored Racketeers tournament.

In the finals held at Constant Spring Golf Club last Monday, Henry defeated Suriname's Virgil Soeroredho 21-16, 18-21, 21-16 for the men's singles' crown.

In the female equi-valent, Lewis beat Geor-dine Henry 21-7, 21-15. Lewis was a winner in doubles also as she teamed up with Christine Mayne to beat Henry and her Mexican teammate, Nadia Lujan, 21-15, 21-15.

The men's doubles matches were competitive, but in the end, Roy Paul Jr. and Paul Leyow came out on top over Soeroredjo and Neil Abrahams 22-20, 13-21, 22-20.

In the mixed doubles, Paul and Mayne defeated Gareth Henry and Geordine Henry 21-18, 13-21, 21-19 ina close three-set match.

Meanwhile, Vijay Myles and Carla Grant were 'B' singles winners.

Myles beat Davon Reid 21-15, 15-21, 21-13, while Grant stopped Kimone Myers 21-14, 21-16.

In doubles finals, Reid and Vijay Myles beat Chadwick Parsons and Wilroy Myles 22-20, 21-13 for the men's title, while Amandi Lowe and Christine Mayne beat Carla Grant and Cortia Boyd 21-9, 21-15 for the women's crown.

The 'C' division titles went to Joslyn Davis, who defeated Michael Evans Jr. 21-16, 21-18 and Terisa Thompson, who beat Monique Hyman 10-21, 21-19, 21-11.

In the men's 'C' doubles, André Morrison and Joslyn Davis beat Evans and Taim-Lue Jr. 25-23, 21-12, while in the women's section, Sharon Vieira and Margaret Peryer beat Simone James and Rachael Hardy 21-13, 21-18.

In 'D' singles action, Aleisha Cousins beat Stefanie Hamilton 21-8, 21-7.
