Melbourne, Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) in big clash
published: Saturday | August 11, 2007

Group One leaders Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and Melbourne will face off in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Limited Overs competition at Up Park Camp today, starting at 10:00 a.m.

Melbourne, who were idle last week, have over the past few years had the better of JDF at this level, though a close contest is expected.

The JDF, with victories over Hanover and St. Catherine CA, will bank on Kamal Dennis, Mel Wint, Damion Grey and Bereston Reid, while Melbourne should be led by Carlton Baugh Jr., Yannick Elliott, Damion Jacobs and Llewellyn Meggs.

It is uncertain whether top players, exciting West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels and Donovan Pagon will play. None of them have representedthe club in this competition this season, but The Gleaner has learnt that both were named in the squad for today's match.

In the other Zone A match, St. Ann face St. Catherine Cricket Association at Jamaica Bauxite, formerly Kaiser Sports Club.

Police's charge

Meanwhile, high-riding Police will face Kensington in today's third round of matches in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Limited Overs competition at Elletson Road, starting at 10:00 a.m.

Police, who play in the Red Stripe Championship, the country's second division competition in the last two outings, have so far defeated Boys' Town and Manchester.

It is likely they will get their third straight win today against struggling Kensington, who were relegated from the Super Cup.

Police's captain Renford Pinnock, who starred with bat and ball last week, will once again lead his team's charge.

He should expect support from Ordane Hutchinson in the batting and Baldwin Virgo in the bowling department.

Rasheed Outar, who scored an undefeated century -103 for Kensington last week - should lead the east Kingston team's batting.

In the other Zone B match, Boys' Town take on Kingston & St. Andrew at Collie Smith Drive.

In Zone C, Westmoreland host St. Catherine Cricket Club at Allan Rae Oval, while Lucas will travel to Bounty Hall to play Trelawny.

In Zone D, Kingston take on St. Elizabeth at Sabina Park and St. James entertain Portland at Jarrett Park.
