SLP steps up calls for minister's resignation
published: Wednesday | August 15, 2007

CASTRIES, St. Lucia (CMC):

The Parliamentary group of the opposition St. Lucia Labour Party (SLP) Monday, formally presented a letter to Acting Prime Minister Stephenson King, officially calling for the resignation of Economic and Planning Minister Ausbert d'Auvergne.

The SLP through its party leader Dr. Kenny Anthony had given d'Auvergne 15 days to resign from the Government. The deadline expired last Friday.

The SLP's Deputy Leader Phillip J Pierre, one of six leaders comprising the Parliamentary group, said the resignation call was one of principle, based on the fact that the party remained firm in its conviction that the minister displayed bad judgment.

"In this regard and on behalf of the Parliamentary group of the St. Lucia Labour Party, I have officially written to Acting Prime Minister to make our feelings known and to officially document our request for Mr. d'Auvergne's resignation," Pierre said.
