Tropical Storm Dean is expected to pass north or south of Jamaica on Monday and the country is expected to start feeling the effects of the system by Sunday, according to duty forecaster at the National Meteorological Centre, Glenroy Brown.
Mr. Brown told The Gleaner yesterday that Tropical Storm Dean was moving across the central Atlantic and was forecasted to move across the Eastern Caribbean as a Category 1 hurricane by Friday. Tropical Storm Dean poses a direct threat to Martinique, St Lucia, and Dominica.
The duty forecaster noted that there would be nothing significant happening across Jamaica for the next few days, but urged persons to continue to monitor the situation as the system will pass close to the island.
Still early days
Mr. Brown said while it was still early days, it is expected that the country will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms as the system moves pass the island. He noted that the severity of the effects would be dependent on how close the system moves pass Jamaica.
