Transport advisories listed
published: Saturday | August 18, 2007

IN LIGHT of the impending passage of Hurricane Dean, some transport companies have issued advisories to passengers regarding service throughout the weekend.

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) yesterday told The Gleaner it was working in conjunction with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management as it sought to make necessary preparations.

Joan Barnett, of the communications department, said the JUTC was awaiting a further advisory from the disaster management agency, which it expects today.

Further details

Residents are therefore advised to stay tuned to the electronic media for further details regarding if and when buses will be taken off route.

Ms. Barnett said buses will be withdrawn on a phased basis.

Several taxi companies contacted by The Gleaner have also maintained their commitment to providing service to residents who need to be transported throughout the weekend.

Simone McKenzie, administrative assistant at Candy Cab, said taxi service would be available to customers until weather conditions no longer permit.

Air Jamaica has also issued an advisory to passengers whose travel plans may be affected by weather conditions.

The airline has advised that passengers holding tickets to/from Barbados, Bonaire, Curaçao, Grand Cayman, Grenada, Kingston, Montego Bay, Nassau and St. Lucia issued on/before August 16, for travel between August 17 and 24, 2007 may change their itinerary.
