Prisons damaged

Commissioner of Corrections Major Richard Reese has said that varying degrees of damage has occurred at several of the island's penal institutions due to Hurricane Dean.

Major Reese revealed that most the roofs of the institution suffered most of the damage. Other damage reported was flooding, the sewerage system and stores.

Correctional centres

The institutions affected are South Camp Road, Tower Street and St. Catherine adult correctional centres. The Tamarind Farm and Richmond Farm prisons, Armadale Juvenile Correctional Centre, Montpelier Camp and the Fort Augusta prison for women.

The commissioner also revealed that inmates had to be internally relocated because of the damage.
