... WICB puts up team in Antigua
published: Monday | August 20, 2007

Jamaica's Under-19 team was put up in Antigua by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) as they await the passage of Hurricane Dean.

The team, which captured the TCL West Indies Under-19 one-day title on Saturday after trouncing Guyana by eight wickets at Warner Park, was expected to travel to Antigua Saturday night.

Derek Nicholas, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) cricket operations officer, told CMC Sports Saturday arrangements had been made for the team to remain in Antigua until they could return home.

"We have already made arrangements. They will be well taken care of," Nicholas said.

Sangster International Airport, located in the western city of Montego Bay, was closed at 8:00 p.m. while the Norman Manley International, in the capital Kingston, was expected to be closed at 11:00 p.m. Saturday night as the country prepared to take a battering from the first hurricane of the Atlantic hurricane season.

Hurricane Dean, rated a category four system on the Saffir-Simpson scale, is packing winds of up to 150 miles per hour.
