Swearing-in scheduled for Tuesday
published: Saturday | September 8, 2007

Golding

Arrangements are now being made for the swearing-in ceremony of Bruce Golding as Jamaica's eighth Prime Minister.

The event is scheduled for King's House next Tuesday, September 11, at 4:00 p.m.

This marks the first time a prime minister will be sworn in from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) since 1983 when Edward Seaga won an election that was not contested by the People's National Party (PNP).

On Monday, Mr. Golding led the JLP to a narrow win over the People's National Party in the country's 15th general election since Universal Adult Suffrage in 1944. In the country's closet election yet, the JLP won 33 seats to the PNP's 27.

Ahead of Tuesday's ceremony, a dress rehearsal is also planned for King's House on Monday, September 10, at 4:00 p.m.
