Bodles Football Club were toasts of the St. Catherine Football Associa-tion's 70th annual awards dinner at the Arian Restaurant, Twickenham Park, in Spanish Town last Thursday night.
Bodles won two major awards, inclusive of the Juciful St. Catherine Major League Trophy, and the mid-season crown.
After the awards ceremony, Bodles F.C. will need a new trophy case as their club won numerous prizes. Glenroy Levy won two individual awards, Best Midfielder and Most Valuable Player, while Dale Senior took the Best Defender's prize.
Their coach Calvin Valentine was rewarded for being the Top Coach, while Devon Brown received the Top Manager award.
Bodles were lauded by the Parish F.A. for being the most organised and resourceful out of all the clubs that participated in the two St. Catherine leagues.
The Calvin Valentine-coached team, a Major League outfit, also played in the St. Catherine Cooperative Credit Union Knock-Out final. They were they beaten by defending champions and National Premier League kingpins, Portmore United, whose coaching staff accepted on behalf of the players.
Bodles' Levy collected another award for being the most outstanding senior player and Bodles were also awarded for its outstanding team performance.
Police F.C., which emerged the Errol Cann Division One's top club, also pocketed a number of awards. The Stanley Gardener-coached team also copped three individual awards. Michael Marsh earned a double - Best Midfielder and MVP, and his teammate Orlando Webb was adjudged the Best Defender.
A special award went to Lascelles Wheeler for being the Referee of the Year.
Guest speaker for the event, Garfield Samuels, president and C.E.O. of Dehring Bunting and Golding, charged the clubs and players to maintain high standards and commitment.
'Real fruit of life'
Samuels, the son of Hollywood actress, Madge Sinclair, noted that "... awards are a real fruit of life", adding that these awards should be treated as milestones to either getting their clubs promoted to a higher league or "getting that professional contract".
He also made reference to the national level, saying "the big audacious goal should be the qualification of the national teams (to FIFA finals competitions) at every age level".
Former President of the St. Catherine F.A., Lincoln 'Happy' Sutherland, and his wife were recognised. by new president Peter Reid for their contribution to football in the parish. Sutherland served the F.A. for 42 years. Most disciplined team - Black Lions.
