The Editor, Sir:
I have to agree with E. Dunkley whose letter was published on September 10. It is unfair if persons blame Portia Simpson Miller for the People's National Party's defeat in the September 3 election.
I no longer reside in our beautiful island, but was there last year when she took over from P.J. Patterson.
There was so much excitement at her getting the vote. Obviously, there were many unhappy about it, but that is life.
However, I want to acknowledge the legacy I feel she has given to our island ( and which we need to continue to cry out for) and that is seeing each other as one nation, brothers and sisters and being mature enough to live and love despite our differences.
As I was home this summer and saw her at the Prime Minister's award ceremony, I was blessed to see her genuine love for others and her gracious spirit to Edward Seaga despite differences.
That's the Jamaica we all need and have been praying for. I thank God for her short 'reign' for it did make a positive difference in many ways, albeit not enough to hold on to the PM's seat.
May Bruce Golding and the party at all levels strive to maintain the spirit of love and acceptance and that we can move forward as a new nation 'under God'.
I am, etc.,
