The Editor, Sir:
Having just listened to our immediate past Prime Minister's speech at the PNP's conference, I am disappointed at the path that Mrs. Simpson Miller has taken. Our country Jamaica that she says she loves, and the people that she says she loves, cannot proceed forward with hatred. Unfortunately, this seems to be her message, Jamaica can only continue to move forward if our political parties can work together. Both parties have skeletons in their closets, with neither one being pure and faultless.
The Opposition has an important role to play in the running of our country and its role cannot simply be to cry down the government in power. That was the old style of politics and we need to put an end to that. This is what keeps the poor, poor, and makes no one rich.
Our people need to stand up and arm themselves with a good education, not hatred or partisanship, so that when anyone tries to incite us with hate, greed or violence we can say no!
I also feel that our present Prime Minister has made his first major mistake by electing so many state ministers. I am sure the country can be run effectively with a tighter, leaner, leadership.
I am, etc.,
