The Editor, Sir:The children of Jamaica will not be regressing technologically, nor will the country be seen as archaic if they are not allowed to carry cellular phones to school. From playing games to having 'ring tone clashes' and having the phone ringing during class serve to distract not only fellow students but also the teacher who is now competing not only with unruly children but distracting cellular phones.
If the National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica does not see the inherent danger in allowing students to carry cellular phones to school then we, as a country, have some serious thinking to do about where our morals and ethics lie. There are many unreported cases of children who are held up and in some cases physically assaulted for their cellular phones and other valuable possessions.
Students 10, 15, 20 years ago did exceptionally well in their academic pursuits in the absence of cellular phones or similar technologies.
