General Secretary of the Jamaica Boxing Board of Control (JBBC), Leroy Brown, has been specially invited to officiate as an international technical official at the International Boxing Association (AIBA) World Boxing Championships scheduled to take place in Chicago, United States, from October 23 to November 4.A record number of boxers from 109 countries will participate in the 11-day event. Reigning champions Cuba have opted not to attend the tournament, but despite their absence, the standard of the competition is expected to be at a high level.
Special technical duties
Brown, who is a former president of the JBBC and is now second vice-president of the Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association, is an experienced referee/judge and will be assigned special technical duties at this premier amateur boxing event.
Earlier this year, Brown was appointed secretary to the AIBA World Championships Organising Commission.
This commission is responsible for assessing applications for hosting major international tournaments run by AIBA and making recommen-dations to the president and executive committee of AIBA regarding the country that should be awarded a tournament.
Prior to his appointment to the AIBA, Brown had been a judge at the Olympic Games in Moscow and Los Angeles and has officiated as a judge and on the panel of jurors, at the Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games, Central American and Caribbean Games and the Central American and Caribbean Boxing Championships.
