The Editor, Sir:Is Ronnie Thwaites in a position of conflicting interest? Is he balanced in his criticism of those who write against his party or favourably to the JLP government when reading the newspapers in the morning?
I think not. Did he give free public relations with high appraisals to people like Roger Clarke (former Minister of Agriculture)? I think so. Yet for some strange reason I think he is a very nice person with good intentions. He is probably the only socialist I would vote for if he was head of the PNP. And I am still hooked to his otherwise highly informative programme. Maybe we can live with some conflict of interest.
On the other hand though, some can be costly. Was Dr. Vin Lawrence treasurer of the PNP while he was chairman of so many other government boards? Was it during the same period as chairman of UDC and treasurer for the PNP, that we had that huge overrun on the White House hotel project? If the answers to those questions are yes, it would have meant that Dr. Vin Lawrence was in an extraordinary position of conflict of interest.
Then we could further speculate as to where the money might have gone considering we had elections during that same period. That to me could be the mother of all conflicts of interest and a costly one too.
I think action and statements done and made by Renato Adams and the just retired Chief of Staff Rear Admiral Lewin will conflict with the position of being a fair Commissioner of Police.
I am, etc.,
