MOTIVATIONAL AUTHOR, Napolean Hill, reminds us that our thoughts are under our control as designed by God, the creator. The Bible, 'God's written word', also admonishes those of us who are wise, sober and experienced to be teachers of good things.
Jermaine D. Gordon has had a deep relationship with God for a long time, and his many challenges inspire him to teach others through the many talents given to him. He is a composer, artist, and musician, arranger and music producer and now publisher.
As a director of music, he coaches others in developing their own talent, and being highly enthusiastic, he hosts motivational sessions. Becoming an author has been his childhood dream, and while attending Kingston College, he remembers his peers often enjoying his short stories and poetic expressions. Hence, Kingston College is where he discovered his talent for writing, during the 1980s, when penpal communications was popular.
After that as he assumed manhood, he recorded his life's lessons as he realised the power of his thoughts, and the God-given ability to control them.
In 2003, the man who observed that far too many persons who had a lot to say "simply didn't" decided to pen his thoughts seriously. In a release he stated, "I would write simple, but profound lessons that could be learnt from an ant, a bee, or even a tree."
The devout Christian who has been a music minister for just over 10 years recently produced a book, The Colour and Power of Your Thoughts.
Although simple in appearance, the book is attractive. It introduces you really to who Jermaine David Gordon, the author, is, but it is also quickening refresher for others during a busy day.
The combination of Gordon's thoughts and photographs taken by himself, and two family members are well packaged together, again by him - the self-publisher in a soft cover book.
The page layout is clean and for those who relate to the royalty of purple, the range of this colour used for the text, borders of the images set in the middle of the pages add inspiration.
The pages themselves are in varied intensities of the same bluish purple which soothes as you absorb the penned thoughts.
The thoughts, except for a few, are witty. The ones that the book could have done without are ironically on 'advice' and 'appreciation," and similarly there are a few photographs that would have been sharper.
A few other thoughts seem to be mere random statements and lack the provocative detail elsewhere. They seem incomplete and demand too much work in unravelling the message intended, such as on 'gratefulness'. Hence, hinting at the lack of proper editing.
On the other hand, the use of biblical quotes especially from the books of Proverbs and Lamentations is a strength, which makes the book all the more appealing as the selections are potent. This is an added strength to the book's unique layout with spots of dark purple breaking up the open space around the image and serving as background to the inspirational text.
One of his strongest thoughts offered is, "If you keep worrying about your life, you will miss the meaning of life," and the ones on the Church are worth heeding to.
His thoughts on 'Listen' and 'Rebellion' are ear piercing and well put with appropriate photographs. When he says where there is rebellion there are many rulers, he choses a complementing picture of an abandoned ship placed against a turbulent orange yellow sky.
Apology and patience are just a few revealing the many possibilities of his experiences with which others connect.
Aside from telling of Gordon's personal experiences and an uncanny way of reaching out to others, there is nothing dramatically creative about the thoughts to match the book's colourful design.
Most are, however, to the point, which is another plus, despite the fact that more consideration could have been applied achieving more power, in the publication.
Jermaine Gordon is a man God has given many talents, and the book is without a doubt a good use of his talent, proving him worthy of keeping them, unlike those who ignore their own until they are taken away.
A true motivator, he has at the very least inspired others to share their own thoughts, if pure, noble, and true. This comfortable gift for Christmas is now available at bookstores, pharmacies and gift shops islandwide.
