New Year wishes
I have some public new year wishes for 2008. I have lived on Barrington Drive in Havendale since 1982. The area could best be described as an orphan or one which has a 'wicked stepmother'.
So, for 2008, I wish that the area is adopted or there is a change of heart. With this, I wish for the following: (1)The roads of Barrington Drive, Lydia Drive, Rosedale Drive and Bellemar Place will be repaired. At a Neighbourhood Watch meeting years ago we were told that it's the responsibility of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) and not the MP's. The KSAC says they have no money and we are not 'visited' by either MP or councillor. (2)That our garbage is collected twice weekly as it used to be.

Disappointing
Disappointing message from the Prime Minister (PM). He obviously did not read your editorial of a few days ago.
It was a predictable litany of complaints and promises while claiming a fresh start. The PM has missed an opportunity to signal a truly fresh start by admitting error, over-exuberance (before the election) and asking for time to get done some critical things and setting a realistic agenda.

Plea from prison
There are individuals in the prisons, some of whom are innocent, and the others guilty. However, many of us want to make a positive change in spite of all the things we have done to humanity and society, but how can we repair all the pain, grief and losses when we are not getting the opportunity to do so? On the other hand, there are some individuals who think that we should not be forgiven. Why? A life lost can never be replaced; therefore, if we have to suffer the consequence, please don't take our past to blight our future.
There are good men and women behind bars who only need help and moral support, no matter what their circumstances are. I had killed and injured people in the past but I wasn't aware of what I was doing to mankind and myself.
On the behalf of my fellow inmates in all penal institutions who are making that positive change, we would like to ask all the victims' families that we had hurt and the rest of the Jamaican people, if they can find it in their hearts to forgive us. If we all study evil for evil then we will never attain the transformation that we are hoping for.
Let us all come together for the sake of our children and heal this nation.
