The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, will be hosting its annual Research Day on January 24-25 under the theme 'Caribbean Impact: Global Reach'.
An opening ceremony marks the official start of the activities on Thursday, January 24, at 9:00 a.m. at the undercroft. Guest speaker will be Minister of Education Andrew Holness.
The annual Research Day is designed to highlight the research areas of the university intellectual community and to expose the public to the relevance of the research work done by the institution. It also provides an environment for knowledge sharing.
Research Day 2008 activities will include tours of the campus, presentations from various researchers across the faculties, video presentations, demon-strations and exhibitions.
Presentation topics
Presentation topics include: 'Usage Patterns for Mobile Phones in Jamaica', 'Developing Spatial Tools to Fight Crime', 'Mobility and Migration: Jamaicans in Foreign', and, 'Making Your Small Business Competitive'.
The main exhibitions will be located in the Assembly Hall and will be supplemented by depart-mental exhibits, demonstrations and lectures.
There will also be a special research awards ceremony to recognise the work of exceptional researchers at UWI, Mona, on January 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mona Visitors' Lodge and Conference Centre.
