Negril, Spring to battle
published: Friday | January 18, 2008

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE first title of the 2007-08 Captain's Bakery Western Super Football League season will be up for grabs this afternoon when Salt Spring and Negril meet in the competition's mid-season final at Jarrett Park at 5:00 p.m.

The teams earned their respective places in the final by virtue of finishing atop the two zones in the 12-team competition, following last weekend's final set of preliminary games.

Salt Spring, who had a 0-0 draw against Frome, finished atop Zone A with 11 points, while Negril, who extended their 100 per cent win record to four games with a 4-2 victory against Central, finished top of Zone B with 12, despite having an outstanding game.

The standings in the zones are as follows: Zone A: Salt Spring 11, Granville 9, Frome 4, Fogo 4, Holland 4 and Sandy Bay 1. Zone B: Negril 12, Wadadah 8, Salem 7, Duanvale 4, Montpelier and Central 1.

According to the competition's format, at the end of the preliminary round the two top teams in each zone will advance to the semi-finals where the two zone winners will play off against the runners-up of the opposite zone to decide the finalists.
