Claiming activity intensifies

STATE PRINCE, a runaway winner of the second race over 1600 metres, was one of 12 horses claimed at Caymanas Park on Saturday.

One of three winners for champion jockey Omar Walker, STATE PRINCE was taken from trainer Desmond Shand for $260,000 by trainer Fitzhanum Williams for himself.

As claiming activity intensified, as many as five horses were claimed in the fifth race won by the 26-1 outsider CELEBRATION TIME.

Among those claimed in this race was REGAL SERENADE for $260,000 by trainer Rowan Mathie on behalf of Jockeys' Enterprise.

Favourites beaten

Also taken were the beaten favourite SPECIAL K for $210,000 by trainer Ryan Darby for Raphael Gordon, RAMADA for $210,000 by trainer Anthony 'Baba' Nunes on behalf of Cuds, SANTA ANITA GIRL for $210,000 by trainer Winchester McIntosh for himself, HARMONICS for $210,000 by trainer Alfred Wright for Camille McFarlane and FLYING FIRETAIL for $210,000 by trainer Anthony Smith on behalf of Mercurial.

In the seventh race won by JACK BE GOOD, BABY RENEE was claimed for $355,000 by trainer Colin Blair on behalf of New Blue, and MELINDAGATA for $380,000 by Anthony Nunes for himself.

In the closing race over the straight five course, three horses were claimed, all for $170,000. They were the upset winner BUSTER JACK at 34-1 by trainer Winston Charles on behalf of Steve Johnson, TRUE SENSATION taken by trainer Fernando Geddes for himself and highly fancied MISS PAIGE by trainer Henry Harrison Jr. on behalf of Basil Woolcock.
