The Editor, Sir:The Prime Minister may have read George Orwell's masterpiece about Big Brother looking over your shoulder, or it could be that everything that America does Jamaica ends up following. I do not see how the National ID card is going to prevent crime in Jamaica with those pig-headed and avaricious criminals. I do not see why decent, law-abiding citizens should give up their privacy because of that lot.
I can understand countries having problems with terrorism using all means necessary to curb acts of terror. But, a small country like Jamaica with water all around in which guns cannot swim, I fail to understand how they can arrive in the country and be given to criminals that have no regard for God or man. The only thing a national ID will do is to invade one's privacy.

I do believe most of the cops are honest and they are needed and should be treated with respect. We should not paint everyone with the same brush; the same goes for the politicians, only I wonder if most of these politicians are paragons of virtue. It would be interesting to see if they would enter a confessional. We could find out about the guns if some of those folks that are held in high esteem would do what the cop that turned to his God did.
While I think he should be punished, I do not think he should be dealt with harshly; a suspension is enough. He should be given back his job; it may encourage others to do the same.
I am, etc.,
