NOTE-WORTHY: For the working class
published: Monday | February 4, 2008

For the working class

It is with great pleasure that I use this medium to offer kudos to the Minister of Labour, The Hon Pearnel Charles for the increase which he has sanctioned for the working class citizens who continue to suffer under many employers who feel that people should toil daily and at the end of the week or month, etc, are unable to meet their financial obligations, namely utility bills, rent, food and other basic amenities.

Minister Charles, thank you for caring for the working class. Please take your portfolio seriously and try to help the working class to live better and open the eyes of those wicked employers out there and let them know that the working class want to one day be able to purchase a car and a home and live comfortably. All Jamaica's working class are relying on you.

A day for Bob

I find it quite insulting that our culture does not identify our hero in any way on his special day. It seems to me that foreign lands are more accepting of our Bob than Jamaica is. It's shameful that we have not designated a public holiday for Bob's birthday. Don't forget, our tourists come to Jamaica mainly because of Bob; my friends do. Start the process, Rita, after all, Bob left YOU as his ambassador.

Precious memories

It was very upsetting to me to learn that thieves destroyed some of our precious memories. It is dear to me because my father is a member of the Jamaican Folks Singers. He played the flute and was featured on records like Christmas JA with Neville Willoughby and on albums with Father Richard Ho Lung He is Sgt Calvin Thomas.

Clean leadership

The road to clean up the crime in Jamaica will need new leaders like Rear Admiral Lewin, man with proven integrity. The main problem is that too many of the up-and-coming officers in the JDF and JCF don't measure up. These leaders' personnel records should be checked before they are given any position to lead men in the battle against crime.

The citizens of Jamaica, rich or poor, know better and will not be fooled by a hypocrites who try to enforce laws in the country that they themselves don't follow. So if you are an officer of the JCF/JDF that take bribes, or steal money, STOP. The criminals will use anything to get their way and when you get exposed by them, you will lose the confidence of the men you lead and the country you serve.
