The Editor, Sir:
America is still our biggest trading partner; the biggest source of our tourists, foreign exchange, medicines, food and granted they can behave like bullies, there is no sane reason to stoop to predujice against who have lived in the US of A.
After all, that is what it all boils down to. Prejudice. I will collect social security at some advanced age because I lived in America for many years. Citizenship allows me to live where I want without having a hassle collecting what is due to me. Citizenship will make it easier for my daughter to become president of the United States where she was born (should she so choose). I am Jamaican born and bred and like many others can only be true to Jamaica regardless of what oaths we find convenient.
Truth is, dual citizenship is a non-issue for all but the idle. For any red-blooded Jamaican, it will always be Jamaica first even if they have half a dozen different passports.
An issue worthy of discussion is how to get the dry rice that India grows on hillsides planted to the tune of 6,000 acres. Why only 6,000? Why not 15,000 acres? Curry and stew peas can't eat without white rice and that, in my opinion, more profoundly jeopar-dises Jamaicanism.
What of crime? Why is there still chatter on dual citizenship? If you want to remain a dual citizen and you want political clout ... buy an MP! Some sell out cheap. Don't try to become one!
I am, etc.,
